I want to do a provocative photo series about vanity. My idea is to have naked women in all shapes, colors, ages and sizes wear the same Barbie doll-mask in individual portraits. Everyone wanting to be the same thing, even though they're not. I picture them standing without body language, and not doing anything to reveal their real feelings - just apathetic and being practically dead because they're not fighting the mainstream. Well, that was a little over the top, but it's the general idea.

The masks are a big deal, because I believe vanity itself is a mask. In a way I don't need the nudity, but it would make the whole series more powerful and gripping. Provocative and catching.

I'm not trying to save the world or give it a wake up-call. I just want to see what people's reactions would be. An experiment. I was thinking of submitting it to a contest called UKM (Ungdommens KulturMønstring in Norwegian. Cultural Movement for Youth, or something, in English). There would be mostly teenagers and children at the show, so it would be somewhat explicit compared to the age group. However, it's not pornography - on the contrary I would say.

On the other hand, I don't need to make the kids my audience.

The contest is january 25, so I still have some time to think about it.
